We were engaged by Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd to deliver the structural engineering design for their new 560 m² warehouse, a purpose-built facility that will function as a dedicated maintenance, welfare, and training hub for their operations. The project required a robust, future-proof structure capable of supporting specialist equipment and accommodating the evolving needs of the business.
Collaborative Planning and Design
To ensure the project progressed seamlessly from concept to approval, we collaborated closely with Darrell at Avalon Town Planning, who prepared the full suite of planning drawings and documentation. This early alignment between structural design and planning requirements helped streamline the application process and ensured the proposed building layout met all regulatory and operational expectations.
Integration of an Overhead Gantry Crane
A key element of the client’s brief was the installation of an overhead gantry crane, essential for handling heavy components and equipment within the warehouse. To achieve this, we partnered with the engineering team at Chesterfield Crane Company Ltd, working collaboratively to design a structural frame capable of safely supporting the crane’s operational loads.
This included:
-
Assessing vertical and horizontal loads generated during lifting operations
-
Designing crane beams and supporting columns with adequate stiffness and deflection control
-
Ensuring compatibility between the crane manufacturer’s requirements and the overall building layout
-
Coordinating connection details to ensure safe, efficient installation
Delivering a Robust, Efficient Industrial Building
The result is a tailored structural solution that supports Sheet Piling (UK) Ltd.’s operational needs while offering durability, safety, and flexibility for future expansion. This project highlights our ability to work across multiple disciplines—from planning to specialist equipment coordination—to deliver complete engineering solutions for industrial developments.
